Alexis Hanenburg is a student at UNG, currently in her junior year, majoring in Elementary Education with a dual degree in Special Education. She juggles a hectic schedule, as she is working part-time, interning part-time, taking five classes, instructing swing dance days a week, finding time for homework and friends, and of course practicing with her wonderful partner Ken at least once a week! She is originally from Canton, GA, where she was homeschooled along with her three siblings. She loves to read, write, listen to music, hang out with friends, and dance. Alexis has been dancing for six years and is well-versed in many styles of dance, including swing, waltz, Cha Cha, Salsa, and both pop and country line dances. She is looking forward to this year of Dancing with the North Georgia Stars and the impact this will have on the children involved with CASA.
Ken Akin is a native of Blairsville, GA. He taught for several years before moving to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Parks Division in 1982. He has managed parks all over Georgia, starting his career on the Georgia coast. In 2002 he was named the overall Manager of the Year in Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites. Mr. Akin’s retired as manager and archaeology program coordinator at Etowah Mounds at Cartersville in 2009. Mr. Akin’s discovered his love for dancing in the years after his first marriage. He started with country line dancing but later learned shag and some classic dancing. He is now involved in the local Chamber of Commerce, community activism and is currently Chairman of the Lumpkin County Democratic Party.< Previous Dancers Next Dancers >
